On May 23, Shareholder Robert Wiygul, along with Heather McCarthy, Senior Prosecuting Attorney for the Pennsylvania Department of State, presented a CLE Program entitled “The Art and Science of Cross Examination” for the Pennsylvania Department of State 2022 Spring Educational Conference. During this presentation, Rob spoke on the nuts and bolts of cross-examination, including when and why to cross, the functions of cross, tips and tricks for a successful cross, and expert witness, witness control, and impeachment issues.
A shareholder in the litigation department, Rob provides counsel and representation to his clients at every stage of the litigation process in both federal and state courts, from pre-complaint investigation to discovery to trial to appeal. He has significant trial and appellate experience, and his extensive litigation practice spans a number of disciplines, including commercial litigation, environmental law, and insurance coverage. In addition, Rob has built a strong practice representing government entities and offices in election law matters. He has represented various state and local officials in matters relating to redistricting and mail-in balloting, and he was a leader of the firm team involved in a range of high-stakes matters related to the 2020 election, including defending against efforts to overturn the election results.
Rob graduated from Yale Law School, where he was the Co-Editor-in-Chief and the Book Reviews Editor of the Yale Journal of Law & the Humanities. He holds a C.Phil. from the University of California, Berkeley (reflecting advancement to candidacy in a Ph.D. program in history), and earned his Master of Philosophy from the University of Cambridge in England. Rob is a magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Williams College, where he also earned Highest Honors in History and Honors in Philosophy. Following law school, he served for two years as a law clerk to the Honorable Anthony J. Scirica of the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.
