Honorees stand as examples of some of the best virtues of Pennsylvania attorneys.
William T. Hangley, Founder and past Chair of Hangley Aronchick Segal Pudlin & Schiller, will be honored with The Legal Intelligencer’s Lifetime Achievement Award at a celebratory dinner on May 20.
The Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes noteworthy individuals who have helped to shape the law in Pennsylvania, whether through their work on the bench, assisting those in need of legal services, building a firm, or through other means. Those selected to receive this prestigious award have collectively moved the legal profession forward in the state, helped foster the legal education of younger attorneys, and stood as examples of some of the best virtues of Pennsylvania attorneys.
Hangley is one of the Bar’s most decorated trial lawyers, both locally and nationally. A longtime Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, he is the College’s Regent for Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware. In recent years, he has served two successive three-year terms as a member of the United States Judicial Conference Advisory Committee on Evidence Rules (by appointment of United States Chief Justice Roberts), while simultaneously serving as a member and then Chair of the Pennsylvania IOLTA Board (by appointment of Pennsylvania Chief Justice Castille), and as Chair of the Third Circuit Lawyers Advisory Committee (by appointment of Third Circuit Chief Judge Scirica), Co-Chairing the ABA Section of Litigation’s Federal Practice Task Force, and participating actively in the work of the Task Force on Discovery and Civil Justice, a joint project of the American College and the Institute for the Advancement of the American Legal System that works to address the increasing inefficiency and expense of the civil justice system and the disappearance of the civil jury trial. developing approaches, pilot projects and suggested protocols for making our civil litigation system more accessible and less expensive for litigants.
With all this, he manages to continue his busy practice as one of Pennsylvania’s most respected and sought after trial lawyers. Benchmark identifies him as one of the top 100 lawyers in the United States. Best Lawyers has named him as Lawyer of Year for “Bet the Company” litigation. Chambers USA has never left him off its list of “Band One” Commercial Trial Lawyers. Year after year, he is voted one of the Top Ten lawyers in the Super Lawyers annual polls (often in the top 3 vote-getters), and has recently been the subject of Super Lawyers Magazine’s cover story.
“Bill certainly represents the best the Pennsylvania legal community has to offer,” said Mark Aronchick, Chair of Hangley Aronchick Segal Pudlin & Schiller. “He’s not just a great trial lawyer; he has dedicated a huge portion of his life to the betterment of the Pennsylvania and national civil litigation systems.”
Hangley will be featured in a special supplement in The Legal Intelligencer to be published this spring.
