We are excited to welcome Rebecca Levin Nayak to Hangley Aronchick Segal Pudlin & Schiller as a shareholder in the firm’s Family Law practice. Rebecca, a resident of the Plymouth Meeting office, joins Hangley Aronchick with 14 years of experience and a strong background in adoption and assisted reproduction law, particularly for the LGBTQ+ community.
In a recent Law360 profile, Rebecca said that her advocacy on behalf of families was inspired by an American University law professor, who worked on one of the first second-parent adoption cases involving a nonmarital partner of the child’s legal parent.
“And that really sort of set me on the path of looking to advocate for LGBTQ+ families within the context of building those families, securing those families,” she said. “And so that’s something that’s been a thread throughout my career.”
At Hangley Aronchick, Rebecca will continue to help clients navigate the challenges of creating and protecting their families, whether through surrogacy, embryo, egg or sperm donation, or various kinds of adoption. Cheryl Young, who leads the family law practice, said there was natural overlap between Rebecca’s established practice and the firm’s leading work on custody matters and prenuptial agreements.
“There’s a lot of back and forth and … synergy, I think, between our practices where they may be different, [with] different focuses, and Becca is going to have a whole different method and message to the public in terms of what her practice focuses on,” Cheryl told Law360. “But there are areas where we will go hand in hand.”
