Shareholder Rebecca Nayak recently spoke with The Philadelphia Gay News about the steps queer Philadelphians should take to protect themselves and their families ahead of the incoming presidential administration.
In the article, Rebecca noted the importance of marriage and confirmatory adoptions in establishing parentage, particularly for people who do not share a biological tie with their children. She also recommended that parents-to-be advocate for improvements to existing state law, including an ongoing legislative push for a uniform parentage statute that applies to LGBTQ+ families.
“Because if we have good statutes in Pennsylvania, then we have less risk if any presidential decisions are reversed,” Rebecca said.
Rebecca, who focuses on LGBTQ+ family law, also led a panel discussion for Philadelphia Family Pride on December 4, 2024, focused on “Securing Your Family in Uncertain Times.”
