Hangley Aronchick is proud to announce the firm has been recognized by the Legal Intelligencer’s 2021 Professional Excellence Awards. Our Litigation Department has been named Litigation Department of the Year, and shareholder Michele Hangley has been named a finalist for the Attorney of the Year award.
Our Litigation Department was recognized in the General Litigation category, an award that honors the best litigation practice in a small or mid-sized firm in the entire state and is based on the firm’s 2020 litigation work, as well as important ongoing matters. This is the third time we have been honored with this award; we were similarly recognized in 2012 and 2018.
Michele Hangley was chosen as one of three finalists for the Attorney of the Year Award, which recognizes an attorney or judge whose work in 2020 had a distinct impact on the law and the legal profession in Pennsylvania. Michele was specifically recognized for the work she did ensuring the integrity of the 2020 election in Pennsylvania. She led the firm’s team on several election matters, including defending the Pennsylvania Secretary of State on challenges to in-person and mail-in voting and defending Philadelphia and Montgomery Counties’ ballot canvassing procedures. She also defended the state against efforts to overturn the results after Election Day, including a lawsuit brought by a U.S. representative who challenged the state’s recently adopted Election Code as unconstitutional. According to the Legal Intelligencer, “Hangley’s work helped shape the way one of the most highly contested and consequential elections played out in one of the country’s most pivotal battleground states.”
The winner of the Attorney of the Year will be announced at an awards ceremony in June, where the Litigation Department and the other Professional Excellence Award winners will also be honored.
