Shareholder Bonnie Hoffman, Chair of the firm’s Education Practice, recently served as a panelist for “The New Title IX Regulations and Their Expected Impact,” hosted by the Philadelphia Bar Association’s Education Law Committee.
This panel provided an overview of United States Department of Education’s proposed new Title IX regulations and Panelists discussed how the regulations will impact educational institutions, from elementary schools to universities, and the ways those schools will have to enforce Title IX policies and handle investigations. Other panelists included Audrey L. Buglione of the School District of Philadelphia, Patricia Hamill of Conrad O’Brien PC, Catherine Nguyen of Cohen Seglias Pallas Greenhall & Furman PC, Sheilah Vance of the Law Offices of Sheilah Vance, and Penny M. Venetis, Director of the International Human Rights Clinic at Rutgers Law School, Newark.
A litigator with a deep and diverse commercial litigation background, Hoffman has represented school districts, independent schools, and charter schools, as well as parents and students, in education-related matters. She is well versed in federal and state education statutes and regulations including the Pennsylvania Public School Code, federal and state “Right to Know” acts, Pennsylvania’s “Sunshine Act,” the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and Title IX, and is able to advise public, private, non-profit, and for-profit schools and other educational entities on how those laws and others impact them.
Hoffman was named a Lawyer on the Fast Track by the Legal Intelligencer in 2016 and has been ranked as a Rising Star by Pennsylvania Super Lawyers magazine each year since 2013. She was also a member of Leadership Philadelphia, Inc.’s Core Class of 2016. She graduated magna cum laude from Villanova University School of Law in 2005, where she was a member of the Moot Court Board and served on the Executive Board Committee. She received her MA in Political Science and her BA, with high honors, in Political Science from Lehigh University.
