Hangley Aronchick Segal Pudlin & Schiller shareholder John S. Summers has been named as co-chair of the Philadelphia Bar Foundation’s 33rd Annual Andrew Hamilton Benefit. The event supports the Bar Foundation’s mission of promoting equal access to justice for the less fortunate, as the funds raised through the benefit are used to support more than 30 non profit legal services organizations in Philadelphia.
As co-chair, Summers will guide all aspects of the event, including location and theme. He will also be responsible for recruiting host committee members and sponsors. Last year, the event’s auctions raised $30,000 of the $277,000 total netted by the benefit. The theme of this years’ benefit is “The Art of Giving.” To tie in with this, Summers has convened an art committee to solicit works of art to be auctioned.
Summers is deeply involved with his community and currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Reinvestment Fund, where he is Vice Chair and a member of the Executive Committee. In addition, his commitment to the bar is demonstrated by his involvement with the Pennsylvania Innocence Project; the American Law Institute; the Philadelphia Bar Foundation, where he previously served as both Treasurer and Secretary; and the Philadelphia Bar Education Center, where he served as President.
